In Tanzania it is a mandatory requirement for some documents to be registered by a registrar of documents. Some of those documents include non-testamentary documents which acknowledge the receipt or payment of any consideration on account of the creation declaration, assignment, limitation, or extinction of any such right, title, or interest; non-testamentary documents which acknowledge the receipt or payment of any consideration on account of the creation, declaration, assignment, limitation, or extinction of any such right, title, or interest.
The document can be presented for registration by one of the parties executing or claiming an interest under it or by his attorney duly appointed or by an advocate of the High Court, or, if such party is a minor or of unsound mind, by the guardian, next friend, or other person appointed by the court to act on behalf of such minor or person of unsound mind in the matter, or by the duly appointed attorney of such guardian, next friend, or other person, or by an advocate of the High Court
Any document of which the registration is not compulsory, may be registered at the option of the holder. The Registrar may refuse to register any such document for reasons to be stated by him in writing. Such refusal shall be subject to appeal in manner hereinafter mentioned.
Documents of which the registration is compulsory shall, as between themselves, be entitled to priority in the order in which they are registered and not in the order in which they are executed or dated.
